RETROSPECTION
AND VISION: 75 AND RARING TO GO
India, the cradle of one of the oldest civilizations
in the world….
India, the great Guru of spirituality, Ayurveda,
Arthshastra, Astrology and Astronomy….
India, that lost its light under centuries of
foreign rules and still managed to shine after breaking the shackles of slavery…
India, that is a so called 3rd world
country yet giving competition to the top economies of the world…
My India, the Great Bharatvarsha, has completed 75
years of freedom and has become a world power that no one can overlook.
A dream that came true at midnight, on 15th
August, 1947, still flourishes and is spreading its wings to achieve greater heights.
The flag of the free nation billowed high up in the
sky. The wings that had been clipped brutally, started to grow back again and
India learnt not only to fly but also to soar above dark clouds.
India started its journey of sovereignty with a
legacy of partition and diversity. To integrate such diversity of people from
different backgrounds, to build a constitution and to establish democracy and
equality were some of the biggest challenges. Obstacles and hurdles were
inevitable, but at the end of the day, every failure teaches us something.
And India wasn’t one to give up.
At present , India is the biggest democracy in the
world with people having direct representation in the legislative processes
through regular elections and the right to adult suffrage and is a home to over
100 languages , over 700 different tribes, every major religion in the world
and to some of the world’s largest cities as well as remote regions with almost
no people.
After British left, India worked hard with different
development plans in fields of agriculture, science and technology, health and
education, Infrastructure, women empowerment and lots more.
Today, India is self-dependent in almost all fields.
Green revolution brought us freedom from hunger and today India is the only
country in the world that fed a large portion of its population free of cost
during difficult corona times.
Once, India lacked basic health facilities. Today,
India is one of the favorite destinations in health tourism.
We not only take care of our own, we help other countries in their hour of need. India not only developed its own vaccine to fight against deadly Corona virus, it also supplied the vaccines to many countries of the world, which were not able to procure enough for their people.
The success of UPI is also a case study for the world with 9.36 billion transactions worth Rs.10.2 trillion in Q1 of 2022 only.
Within just three years of independence , the Indian
institute of technology was established in 1950.
These promoted research in india with the aid of
foreign institutions. From launching it’s first satellite Aryabhatta in 1975 to
being the first country to reach the orbit of mars, india has taken confident
strides in the field of space research technology , thanks to the Indian Space
Research Organisation (ISRO).
Hydropower projects and wind farms are not only
providing us energy but also taking us a step further towards better and
greener environment.
From being an important importer of defense weapons
and technologies, today, India not only has nuclear power, but also producing
and exporting defense technology and equipment to other countries.
Today india is the 5th largest economy in
the world with 147 lakh crore GDP , accounting for 8% of global GDP. In recent
years, India has seen a whopping rise of 15,400% in number of startups , which
rose from 471 in 2016 to 72993 as of june 2022. Hence the number of jobs
available increased.
If we talk about human development , india has a
population of nearly 12% today and a
literacy rate of 74.04%. the average life expectancy has also increased from 32
years to 70 years in 2022.
India has established relations with world powers
such as Great Britain, the European Union, japan, Russia, and the United States.
It houses one-sixth of the world’s population, maintains a unique democratic
ethos, and pursues a foreign policy of national interests and solidarity with
developing countries. India has invested heavily in its relations with
neighboring countries, including china, to create a favorable environment for
economic growth.
With its rich and diverse cultural heritage, Indians are not only helping make India great, they also constitute a large part of
world’s intellectual power. Indians occupy many top positions in different
fields across the world.
India has certainly come a long way in its journey
of development in many fields. But still, a lot remains to be achieved. We are
well on the path of becoming a super power in the new emerging world where
power centres are constantly shifting.
A nation is not born great. It is made great by hard
work, struggles and sacrifices of its people.
We must work towards achieving that greatness, that
height of spiritual, physical and mental wellbeing, which has always been ours.
India was a great civilization once. And India is
well on its path to be one of the greatest again in modern times.
I am proud of my nation. I am proud of its culture,
people, languages, cuisine, land, seas and rivers, mountains and plains.
Let us all be rays to the rising Sun that this new
India is and let us make the world a better place to live.
